Christmas 2020

This year's season was a very sweet one. While we continued in covid-style life, we had plenty of time to rest, play, read, and anticipate Christmas. This was probably our most Advent-ish holiday as we went through Advent liturgy with Driveway church throughout the month.  On Christmas Eve we hosted a service on the driveway and ate rachlette.

While everyone has been excited, Lucy has definitely had the most sugar plums dancing in her head. On Christmas Eve, as we introduced Isaiah to Christmas Vacation, the girls struggled to fall asleep. Lucy came out at 9:30, 10:00, and was still crying out at 10:30, sad that she was too excited to fall asleep. At 2:30am, she was up. Then finally up for the day at 5:30! So much excitement!

I made a second batch of cinnamon rolls in the morning, realizing that I killed the yeast the day before in my preparations. We opened stockings that we had all shopped for several days prior (at Target, in masks). Break. This has become such a cute, fun tradition for us. Noelle thought it was hilarious that both of her siblings bought her the same dark chocolate peppermint bark.

Everyone got some treasures they were excited about among the gifts -  Isaiah got a new Switch game, a uke tuner, a pot for an experiment, fishing equipment from Pa, money, a Nuggets jacket and books. Noelle got all of the goods for making layered cakes, clothes, jewelry, and books. Lucy got a FitBit, Harry Potter Legos, and walkie talkies. I got a 4 slice toaster, some shoes, and my early gift (wireless printer). Luke got clothes, a moss ball, and an immersion blender.

We spent the afternoon enjoying our goodies and eating snacks. We opened Sykora/Burcham gifts over Zoom, which was very sweet. Mimi and Pa sang "12 Days of Christmas" with the gifts we had given them. And all of the cousins opened their colored jean jackets and homemade scarves. Really cute.

The evening ended with cornish game hens a la Luke and a good night of sleep!
