2015-2016 Begins

We have been asked many times when we will start school.  It's a hard question to ask since we never really stop school.  I've started answering that, for us, "school" is like a dial.  We turn it down in the summer and turn it back up throughout August so that we're going at full speed once September hits.  So, we called last Thursday our "first day".  We took pictures, discussed parent/teacher expectations, went over some new things we will be doing this year, and prayed for the year ahead.  I am beyond humbled and thrilled for another year of homeschooling these kiddos.  And they are pretty excited, too!

After pics, we dug into something new that we hope to do often this year - nature journaling.  On a drier day, we would have stayed outside.  But on this damp morning, we each chose something from outside and brought it in to notice detail and sketch it the best we could.  What a great tool to teach attention to detail for foundations in science and for marveling at God's creation.  I'm excited to make this part of our schedule.  We are also adding in map drawing this year.  Other than that, we are continuing with CC Cycle 2, math, spelling, reading, and writing!
