We hit some great milestones yesterday!
At church, Luke and I had a vision to combine the children's ministry "Promotion Sunday" with an adult ministry "Fall Quarter Preview" and add in the Youth Group as well. It was a total success!! We had the whole church in the auditorium for the Sunday School hour. Luke and I did a brief intro, the Youth Group had a sweet time of blessing, the children all promoted, then we had each Fall teacher come up and give a peek of his/her class. It went so well and we were so please and relieved. It was a great church family day. This will be a new tradition at Alpine!
We decided that, at 9 years old, Isaiah is ready for some more responsibilities and more freedom. He is going to start getting an allowance and learning about managing money. And, he is now responsible for a few more things around the house - like wiping the dinner table and sweeping the kitchen every night - woohoo!! He was actually pretty excited about it yesterday! And when the excitement wanes, we hope he can keep a good attitude and I know I will continue to enjoy having that task off my list :)
Noelle hit a huge milestone. We have been working on reading for well over a year. She will mostly cooperate during reading lessons, but has been pretty uninterested in reading anything (even a sign) if it's not during "reading lesson time". So it was a huge breakthrough last night when she chose the "Brand New Potty" book and read every word of it to me and Lucy. I was in tears! So great! It took a long time, but she is starting to identify herself as a reader, which is awesome!
And Lucy. Well, I don't know if it was a milestone, but she shared with us her hand washing method yesterday. "I just wash and wash and then I lick my hands. If they still taste soapy, I rinse them some more. Then, I lick them again to see if they are soapy. When they don't taste soapy, I know I'm done!"
