Good Friday

I am not very creative. It is something I would really like to grow in, but I have a hard time figuring out how to grow in being creative! I'm really thankful for all of the awesome resources I have online for ideas of things to do with the kids. I don't really have to be creative, I just have to know where to find the websites where creative people are giving out ideas. Yesterday I did a few internet-inspired activities with the kids.

We intended to play at a park at a beach called Barclays. I could have sworn someone had told me there was a park there, and I'm pretty sure I'd read it in a guidebook, too. But, alas. No park. So we played in the trees for a little while and then decided to do a treasure hunt. Noelle was not a happy camper, but she was interested enough in Isaiah's hunt to be content-ish for a few minutes. Then we headed home, gave Isaiah paper, glue and paintbrush and let him create a lovely picture.

Last night after Noelle was in bed, we made "Resurrection Cookies" with Isaiah. Basically, you make meringues, and each step is symbolic of Christ's death and burial. Then, you put them in the oven and seal it closed with tape (like the tomb being sealed). You get to go get them the next morning and the cookies are hallow like the empty tomb. It was a really sweet time last night as Isaiah, Luke and I read scriptures and did each step of the cookie making. Isaiah was delightful and we really enjoyed our time together. And of course he was more than thrilled to wake up this morning, check on his cookies, and eat one before 6am!

what a cool cooking making ritual...and i happen to think you are far more creative than you give yourself credit for!

GREAT idea! I've read about this and look forward to doing it too. Maybe L. will be ready for it next year.
