Winter Wonderland

This week brought historic low temperatures and snow to Texas. The entire state was under sever storm advisory as we battled sub-zero temps, freezing rain, sleet, and several layers of snow. We stocked up on Saturday, ready to hunker down, and we certainly did a lot of hunkering! On Sunday, we gave Driveway Church a pass and enjoyed anticipating the snow. We woke up on Monday to a winter wonderland! The kids were super excited to see so much snow outside, though the bitterly cold wind made outside play pretty tricky. Luke soon realized he should have wrapped pipes, so he and Isaiah got to work trying to keep pipes from freezing and bursting. Outdoor play only lasted 30 minutes. The kids were pretty disappointed that the snow was not at all good for snowman building. The low temps were not worth it! Throughout the week the temps stayed pretty low, but the outdoor fun went way up when we learned that "Noel Hill" was open for business for sledding. All of the neighborhood kids gathered whatever sleds, sheets of plastic, boxes, swimming rafts, etc. and spent hours sledding. Amanda commented that Luke seemed to enjoy it more than anyone - and he was just pushing kids down the hill :) We spent our evenings tucked in, faucets dripping, cleaning up many accidents by Remmie.... She was pretty chilly outside but also very excited about eating and bouncing in the snow. It's hard to focus on getting down to business in these conditions...

Now it's Friday and Luke and Isaiah are scraping the driveway. Unfortunately, they were supposed to be at basketball practice this afternoon, but the roads are still slick. We took a walk to Silver Grizzly this morning and enjoyed the ice-crusted snow and sunshine. After a week of being socked in to a winter wonderland, today felt like Aslan was on the move. We all agree that this was a memorable and fun week, we are so thankful we never lost power or water, and we are ready for life to resume as scheduled.

However... life is not quite back to normal. These are the grocery store shelves!
