Halloween really does feel like a full season around here, and we just wrapped it up last night! We had our annual "Fall Day" in September, decorating and making pumpkin bread. But this past week was a full Halloween celebration. On Saturday, we all dressed up for Trick or Treat at LeTourneau. Darth Vader, Theodora, Elsa, a busy bee, and T.Rex enjoyed cruising campus with a sweet community of friends, students, and colleagues.
On Sunday, we hosted the College Ministry for pumpkin carving. We had a great turnout! Some of the students had never carved a pumpkin, or only done it once or twice. It was fun to watch them (especially the engineers...) contemplate and execute their pumpkin-carving endeavor. This was Lucy's year for an all-original design and a totally self-carved pumpkin! Such creativity and hard work! Noelle went with a classic face, also done all by herself. She thought the eyes were not as friendly as she'd hoped, but it was good overall. Isaiah knocked it out of the park with his Yoda! He looked at a Yoda picture on a coke cozy and pulled this off. It turned out SO good! It was probably my favorite Luke pumpkin - check out that light bulb! I went with a classic smile like Noelle. We were so thankful for great weather, plenty of chili, and having the Silverthornes with us to help us host. Fun night.
On Wednesday, we had Alpine's Harvest Festival - chili, dressing up (sort of), and face painting. Isaiah enjoyed graduating up to being a face painter (which is a Youth Group job). Noelle had fun wearing Luke's dinosaur mask. And Lucy enjoyed bopping around with Meg in her "cowgirl" overalls and boots.
Thursday was finally Halloween. The girls and I helped do a field trip at a local elementary school. Our station was the snack station, and the girls worked hard handing out all of the pieces of our "7 course snack" while I explained what each snack represented (harvest, blessing, thankfulness, love...). Isaiah spent the day at the Woodards with his ChA crew, schooling and playing. In the evening, the weather was finally dry enough for a good night of trick or treating. The last few years have been so wet. It was cold, but Theodora, the LeTu Baseball coach, and the "Arctic Explorer" had a good time cruising around with the Caldwells and filling their buckets with treats. Isaiah trick-or-treated in the Masons' neighborhood for a while, then settled down for hot cocoa and football.
Whew! Halloween season has come to a close. Bring on November!
