Wow. August has passed us by, but not without lots of activities, celebrations, transitions, and joy!
LUKE: This guy has been working hard this month. From fixing the sprinkler system to prepping classes to making a "Loving on Longview" presentation at New Student Orientation to back-to-school meetings and "Vision-in-Action" meetings, he's been busy. There has been plenty of fun mixed in, too, including several Fantasy Football leagues and several rounds of golf. He has hit the ground running for the Fall semester!
HOLLY: This month, I finished my first course for the Masters in Clinical Mental Health... while maintaining my own mental health! I really enjoyed my first class, though it felt like it went on forever. It started in May while we were in Hot Springs! Studying and turning in assignments in Arkansas, Longview, Denver, Breckenridge, Colorado Springs, and Alamosa made the course seem especially long. I was thrilled and relieved to complete my final, and I relished in the victory for about 2 hours before facing the reality that I have about 15 more courses to go! The next one started several days later, and I'm up an running. I continue to be incredibly thankful for this opportunity, and I am really impressed with my professors and classes. In addition, I started directing Challenge A! It has been pretty delightful to be teaching this particular group of 7th Graders. They are amazing young people. I'm 4 weeks in to directing now, and I'm fining my footing.
ISAIAH: This guy has faced the most transitions this month! August started with his orientation to the Youth Group and welcome to the Loft at church. A few days later, he started Challenge. A few days later he turned THIRTEEN! And in the midst, he had a 10 day stomach bug, which was no fun. His celebration was a little muted and spread out, since he was not feeling awesome, but we really enjoyed celebrating him! He got some new bedding, replaced the "Cracker Barrel light" in his room with a new light/fan, got a reading pillow and light, a cleaned up, updated "new" laptop, a drone (from Grandma & Granddad), a renewal of Muse (from Huffmans, and cash (from Burchams with Mimi & Pa). Noelle had the idea to give him 13 gifts, so we added in some teen vitamins, body wash 'for men,' and candy to get him to 13. Thinking about food leading up to his bday was a little yuck. He did say that cake sounded good, but we decided that it wasn't best to have thai food on a delicate digestive system! So, we waited an extra week before we went out for his bday meal. More celebration to come, however, as the Coppingers are taking him to lunch and Books-a-Million today. And, he and Luke are going on a trip this month to do some deep sea fishing in Galvaston. So far, he's enjoying his life as a teenager.
In addition to all of this, he started swim team 3x/week. He is overall excited about it (minus the "jammers" he has to wear). Also, he loved going to his first Fantasy Football Draft Party! He's done fantasy football for a few years, but it was super fun to do it in person at William's house. He also had Micah over for a sleepover, accomplished some big outdoor chore tasks, and spent a decent amount of time watching Dude Perfect and Studio C.
NOELLE: This sweet girl has had a good month. It's been a little slower for her, since CC start for her until this past week. She's excited to be in class with many of her sweet friends, and she's needing to step up and be more independent since I'm occupied in Challenge all day. She's also started Swim Team and really loves it! She's super excited about a couple new athletic swim suits and pretty happy that she won a few races this past week. She game home with eyes lit up and a smile she couldn't wipe off. I am excited for the big kids to be involved in this this year. The convenience is awesome (I drop them off at 4:30 at LeTu and Luke brings them home). We know several families that are involved in coaching and participating, and it's super flexible (pay by the month, come to as many practices as you can). She's also been a reading machine, plowing through long fantasy books and looking for moments to sneak away and read whenever she can (she's a Tallon!).
LUCY: Lucy Loo is bopping along with a spring in her step and a cute toothless smile. These days she is happy to snuggle up on the couch reading by herself for as long as I will let her. She was happy that her CC class is about the same as last year, and she gets to be with Lucy Caldwell and Mylie. She's happy to be included in just about any task I am doing (cooking, cleaning bathrooms, shopping, etc.), and she pretty much always has a good attitude. The other day Noelle said, "Does Lucy always have to be SO happy?!?" I laughed because I know what she means. Not everyone is as consistently upbeat and cheerful as Lucy... She's the Poppy Troll of our family and we're so glad we have her!
