Spring Break 2019
This week has been our Spring Semi-break. We started with several days of school and end with a day of yard work. But yesterday was a real BREAK. We headed up to Beavers Bend for a family adventure day of hiking and exploring, and it was lovely. 60 degrees and sunny made for the perfect day of hiking. We hiked about 4 miles up and down fairly steep hills, over rocks and roots, along flooded pathways, across little streams, and ended at this dam-overflow river, which was so much fun to explore! The kids found frog eggs, bugs, moss, flaky rocks that could write like chalk... Lucy said that she didn't understand why that place wasn't in the Travel Photo book we have of the worlds' most beautiful and fascinating places. Ha! It was a joy to see them enjoy the wonder and beauty of a new place!
We also enjoyed our little picnic in which Luke set a record for slices of lunch meat consumed. We are doing an Elimination Diet, and it was hard to pack a picnic for him and me with no grains, dairy, eggs, soy, sugar, corn, beans, or citrus fruits! But we managed with our lunch meat, carrots, and "energy balls" of dates, nuts and coconut. There was also a pretty neat museum to explore with the history of foresting in the area and some beautiful wood carvings and sculptures. We could not find any afternoon coffee, so we settled for some giant cups of unsweetened ice tea and the kid each got their own tub of cotton candy, which pretty much made it the best day ever. I do appreciate how much these precious kiddos appreciate little joys!
We made the 2+ hour drive home playing on kindles and reading aloud in time to throw some beef in the skillet and have another Elimination Diet dinner. The kids enjoyed pie for Pi Day and Luke and I watched the final episode of our Spring Break tv series and drank our "milkshakes" of bananas, almond milk, almond butter, and cocoa. Great Spring Break Day!
