Lucy's 6!

I just love birthdays. What a treat to celebrate people's lives! I especially love the birthdays of my sweet children because I really could not love those little people more than I do!

We got to celebrate Lucy this weekend and it was precious! Jack and Roxanne came in to town for a few days (conveniently overlapping with a Marriage Retreat). They spent a lot of time swimming at the hotel pool while we were away. Unfortunately, Roxanne was coming down with Strep by the time we got back from the retreat. They weren't able to fully celebrate Lucy's birthday with us, but it was nice to at least have Lucy's dinner choice - pad thai - with them.

The big girl got her American Girl doll this year. She hasn't been as giddy to get hers, compared to Noelle, and I wasn't totally sure she really wanted one. But, when we saw her all dreamy eyed over Felicity, we were convinced she was excited. She loved having authority over her own AG doll and immediately started changing into matching clothes once she'd opened the grandparents' AG accessories. She also got a stuffed puffin in anticipation of her "Puffin Party" the next day.

Her party was so sweet, and it was all her idea. She's recently discovered a very calming British cartoon on Netflix called Puffin Rock. After watching episodes for a few weeks, she decided she wanted a puffin party, and watch Puffin Rock for the activity. She only wanted to invite 2 sweet friends - Meg and Lucy. Once we knew her guest list was so short, we suggested taking them all somewhere, but her response was, "No. I just want to have a party at home with Lucy and Meg and watch Puffin Rock." So that's just what we did! We also added in a few games and a bit of painting. It was the calmest, sweetest little party a 6 year old could have, and it was well suited to her little crew!

We are still smitten by Lucy and have so much fun doing life with her. She's reading chapter books, and she is pretty excited for this whole world of reading to be open to her.  She can't get enough time to play in dirt/sand/mud. Getting lost in her imaginary world with small toys (or sticks or rocks or silverware) happens all the time. She's not yet aware of us seeing/hearing her when she's playing and it's so much fun to her her little stories and conversations unfold! She adores Noelle, which comes out in a lot of copying her. She enjoyed gymnastics for most of this school year until she didn't. When I suggested some other activities, she said she really just liked calmer activities - like playing at home with friends. I get comments a lot about how cute, smart, and delightful she is, especially from CC or church teachers. She laughs a lot, and she smiles a lot - both bring out her little crinkle in her nose! We are so very thankful for our big 6 year old!!
