VBS and Father's Day and Luke's birthday were once again intertwined and full this year. Luke and I led "Bible Quest" with the Silverthornes. We have claimed that part of VBS and love doing it each year. This year, we got to create a boat/storm sea with Peter stepping out of the boat and walking on water with Jesus. We also got to put on a really cool shadow play of Holy Week. We enjoyed the planning and decorating, but the actual time with the kiddos is the best part. It does involve some scrambling during the week as we re-decorate for each evening. I never want my own kids to see anything we've done, so we have to coordinate our schedules to work that out.
For Father's Day, Luke got some gift certificates from the kids, a brush for the girls (he loves brushing their hair), and eggs benedict for lunch. For his birthday, I actually can't remember what he got! But I know we took him out for sushi and then had Aaron over for carrot cake and some Scotland reminiscing...
All 3 kids really enjoyed VBS, but it was clear that VBS is made for 1st graders. Noelle soaked up everything - loved every song and hand motion - was amazed by the stories - loved the snacks. It was right up her alley. The 1st graders song was my favorite of the week. "Sometimes I feel a little down, a little worried when I look around, that's why my hope is in Lord. My hope is in the Lord, I belong to Him. He will never let me go. My hope is in the Lord. I can count on Him. My hope is in the Lord." Watching these sweet babies sing that song had me in tears over and over! I hope those seeds get planted deep in their little hearts and that they will have a lifetime of hoping in God.
