Camp Deer Run

Oh, the anticipation of Camp Deer Run!!  The big kids counted down the weeks and days for quite a while waiting for day camp.  This was Isaiah's last year to go to day camp (4-8 year olds), and he was pumped!  It was so fun to see how old Noelle seemed, getting ready for camp.  She was old enough last year, but not emotionally ready.  This year, she was so ready!  In every picture I saw of her, she was smiling, confident, and so happy to be at camp!  She came home with a few stories, but mostly tired eyes and a contented heart.

Poor Isaiah did not have the same experience as Noelle.  On day 1, he fell to the ground coming down the stairs of the water slide by the pool.  The camp dr. called me, told me he thought that the arm was broken and that I should take him to the ER when he got home.  I picked him up from church and we headed to the ER.  The thought of going to the ER freaked him out, since he'd never been and he didn't really understand the concept.  Once he realized what it meant to be there, he was ok.  He looks pitiful here, but he was actually quite a trooper and in pretty good spirits.  After his first x-rays, swallowing his first pill, meeting with nurses and doctors, and having a very poorly executed temporary cast put on, he was told he would soon be discharged.  He looked up at me with big eyes - what does it mean that they will 'discharge' me?!

We eventually made it home after a handful of hours.  Mary Gooch brought us chick-fila after sitting with us at the hospital and we all headed to bed.

He missed 2 days of camp, recovering one day, getting his hard cast the next day.  Once he cried through the disappointment of not being able to return to camp on those days, his attitude was amazing.  No complaints!  He got a bright orange cast and was able to return to camp on the final day.
