Another fun Halloween with this crew!
Halloween fell on a Friday this year, which also happened to be an Avon-delivering Friday. So, the kids got to dress up for the full day. Lucy's was determined to be an "alligator" (in our dinosaur costume) for the past month. But, on Halloween morning she changed her mind. She ended up as a ballerina, which I was glad for as getting in and out of the car seat and dealing w/ an alligator costume was going to be tricky.
It was certainly not hard for this girl to decide she would be a princess this year. The lovely Cinderella -
And Indiana Jones! We were stumped w/ Isaiah's costume until he went to Josiah's Indiana Jones birthday party where he got a hat, satchel as favors! We recycled a vest we found at Caring & Sharing (Isaiah did some of the sewing), and borrowed a whip. He looked great, though it was a windy day and his hat took off many times.
So once I had this lovely crew and all of my Avon stuff ready, we hit the road. Just when I was getting ready to say farewell to Avon, Halloween just about changed my mind. Some of my customers had treats prepped and waiting just for my kids! People took pictures of them and were so happy to have us visit. The most fun was going to the retirement home. They were very well received! We intended to continue our traditions of having Halloween corndogs at Sonic (just 50 cents on halloween!), but it was too chilly to eat outside, so we went to McAlisters to fill those little bellies with something other than candy. Mary Gooch met us and we were happy to discover that kids in costume eat for free on Halloween! What a treat!
The afternoon meant a quick nap for Lucy, some rest time and candy sorting for the big kids, and we finally got around to carving our pumpkins just in time. We did carve one a week prior with our Life Group, but this was the kids' chance to each design their own.
Our Trick-or-treating started at LeTourneau w/ the Caldwells and Longs. The college students decorate their dorm lobbies for kids to come through. It was so neat!
After we finished at LeTu, we headed back to the neighborhood for our first round of local trick-or-treating. We had been invited to another neighborhood for the evening, but we felt like it was important to stay local and be present in our 'hood. I stayed home to welcome little people while Luke and Ben took the kids out for a bit. Although I didn't have as many trick-or-treaters as I would have liked, I definitely had a handful. And I definitely teared up a few times with thankfulness for being able to offer candy from my very own front porch to my very own neighbors. It was a sweet night!
