Homeschool Moments

We are continuing to find our groove in homeschooling and continuing to LOVE it.  I could go on and on...  Here are a few snapshots of our days in the last month or so.

Our co-op was on break a few weeks ago.  We'd signed up for an outdoor "Gators & Friends" field trip, but it was COLD and they cancelled it.  So, we headed to Tyler to explore the Discovery Center there.  It was pretty good!

For the last few months, Isaiah and Luke are gone on Monday nights for basketball practice.  The girls eat dinner, do baths, and watch Pioneer Woman.  They were excited to see this cooking show set up at the museum where they could do a cooking show -

Digging for fossils -

We've started volunteering at a local food/clothing bank on Tuesday mornings.  Our main job is to pack hygiene packs.  We also get to move boxes across the room (see below).  I love that the people there (from our church and another local church) have made space for the kids and I to serve there.  They were a little nervous when we first showed up, but after a few weeks of the kids not running around like monkeys, they are glad to have us there!  We are usually there for about and hour and half, which includes devotional time and announcements with the people who run the ministry.  We are actually not there when the doors are open for "clients", but I hope that we can be part of that in the years to come.  One main concern (maybe THE main concern) that people have about the homeschooling life is socialization.  We are truly not concerned at all about our kids' socialization and we are so thankful that we have lots of time to socialize them in ways like this -

"Mom, is it ok if Noelle and I have a quick picnic with Lulu before school time?"

Sometimes we do spelling in costume.

A couple of Isaiah's science books have awesome internet links that go with them.  I usually go through the book part with him and then he gets to explore the links.  I think they are doing something about the human body in this pic -

Lucy sticks with us for the first 20 minutes of school time - calendar, songs, bible time.  Then she usually watches Daniel Tiger and plays.  She really likes looking out the front window and wearing this backpack -

We've had such a great time with the Olympics!!  What a perfect ready made curriculum.  We printed out little flags of all the countries participating.  Then we had to match the flag to the country and made little medal count cards to hang in the den.  Isaiah got to do the extra work of alphabetizing them.

This little miss is doing great in her reading!!  I was a little nervous that she'd be discouraged about how much work it takes to learn to read, but she's really been doing well.  She usually asks to do a lesson on days that we don't do official school, when I usually tell her it's a good time to practice with her Tag pen (a reward for not needing pull ups at night anymore!).

We spent a day learning about Russia on the day of the opening ceremony.  We made piroshki for dinner.

Our little toddler is learning right along with us.  She's sometimes distracting, but almost always cute!

Noelle's been really attached to this baby lately.  She's very attentive and affectionate, though she hasn't named her and she carries her around by her hair.
