Happy Birthday, Lucy!

Our happy girl is 1 year old today!  

Sweet Lucy,

What a joy you have been in our family this past year.  There hasn't been a single day of your life that you haven't brought smiles and laughter into our home and family.  You are amazingly sweet, smiley, and content.  I kind of wish I could freeze you and keep you at this age for a little longer, yet I know that each day brings new delights as we see you discover the world and watch your personality unfold.    At 1 year old:

- you're still a scooter!  Sometimes it looks like you might think about crawling, but we're not sure.  You're starting to pull up on things.

- you have a few words.  The one we hear most is "baby".  You have a baby ("Blue Baby") that you really love.  You also love pointing out real babies when we are out and about, often with a squeal of delight and "Baby!"  Another top-runner these days is "hi!" complete with a hand wave.  You're discovering that a smile, a wave, and a "hi!" gets you a LOT Of smiles and attention in return.  You're just SO cute!  Your other words that are not used as often are mama, dada, night-night, Isaiah (or something like it), and uh-oh.  You "talk" a lot, and I'm sure you're saying more than we know!  

- Your animal sound repertoire consists of fishie, wolf and elephant. 

- You are still loving blueberries.  Your love of eggs and yogurt has dwindled.  You really like cheese.  You had your first taste of cow's milk the other day, and you did not like that at all.  You really enjoyed crepes recently.  

- You're still up in the night, silly girl.  Last night it was around 2:30 and then the day started at 5:30 (with clapping in your bed)

- You are 17 lbs 9 oz, which is at about the 15th-20th percentile

- Isaiah usually calls you "Lu, Lulu, or Moomoo" and Noelle usually calls you Lucia

- Everyone must hug and kiss you before you go to bed or naps - Isaiah and Noelle are very disappointed if they miss out on those snuggles!

- You're enjoying books these days - Especially Goodnight Moon

- When you get up in the morning, I pick you up and ask you to put your blankie and your paci in your bed.  You do it and are SO proud of yourself

- Your favorite semi-off limits places to scoot to in the house are the big kids' room and the diaper bag, and you kick your scooting into high gear when you know we're following you.

- You love to take things in and out of containers these days

- Your favorite outing is to the pet store, which is what we did today since it is your birthday!  You find the rabbits, cats, dogs, mice, and fish absolutely delightful.  You squeal and point and laugh!

- the other event of the day was a "cake smash", which you were not at all into.  But you started making a new face during it, which we now call your "cake face"

- Well, I guess you are one of those people who doesn't like being put in beads, a bow, and a tutu immediately upon waking, put on a cold floor, and given a super-sweet, cold cake to dig into...

- We will have your party next week when Mimi and Pa are here, but for today, we remember that this day is such a special day.  It is good that you were created and it is a blessing and a privilege to be your family.  We're absolutely crazy about you, Lucy!!!
