Goodbye to the sweetest dog -

Today was such a hard day as we said goodbye to Violet. After we first noticed her sudden limp at the beginning of January, she's been deteriorating. We were surprised with how rapidly she declined in the last week. After multiple appointments with the vet, lots of medications, and weeks of her not laying down other than when crated, we were convinced that she was suffering with bone cancer in her hip. Although it is common in greyhounds, it was surprising that it hit her so early. The sweet girl was not yet 6! She added so much joy to our family over the last 4 years. Between many sessions of crying during the last few days, we enjoyed remembering so many sweet things about Vi -

- Noelle: the first time she laid her head on my lap.
- Your majesty
- Coming to find me during storms, laying down next to me on a blanket on the floor. She was comfortable and safe next to me
- squirting whipped cream in her mouth
- getting up the Pottery Barn pink chairs
- catching the squirrel and squeaking across the yard
- taking her to the dog parks and seeing her run and explore
- Lucy: getting in bed with Violet every morning
- sonic speed run around the yard after pooping
- climbing up on the backseat of the van
- laying in the monkey grass
- roaching
- laying against the couch, eyes always on us when we were in the kitchen
- laying in Isaiah's room for a few minutes
- sticking her long nose in leftover coffee mugs and finishing them up
- wander around the house until she knew where everyone was
- waiting at the door to the bathroom, knowing she couldn't come in
- celebration squeaking every time we came home!
- tripping on video game cords
- always looking for comfort and a soft place to lay - anything on the floor was a comfortable place to lay: pillows, laundry, etc.
- laying behind me while I worked at the computer
- hiding her head behind us at the vet
- so excited to get in the car, then pretty nervous
- loosing toys/bones in the ivy
- burying her bone in the garden
- jumping through the ivy
- "scaring" small friends
- surfing the table for goodies
- licking Lucy's chair after meals
- sticking nose into all sorts of tight spots
- making weird noises in the crate
- tail whipping in happiness
- visit all of our guests around the room then lay in the middle on the floor
- softest thing in the world... those ears!
- sound of her clicking around the house
- tattoos in ears
- leaping in through the back door onto the carpet
- morning stretches and toots
- morning licks
- rubbing head/neck/body on smelly things in yard
- running and leaping for balls in the air
- walking along the path in the back yard in the rain
- digging a hole under the play set
- scratching up her bed to make it comfortable
- taking her to CC
- so excited to be on the leash - jumping and spinning
- so happy for a very short walk
- "Who's here!" made her so excited. She loved people and welcoming everyone.
- Loved the Coppingers and the treats they brought in bags
- getting gumballs stuck in her paws
- panting and wearing out on short walks
- She got out once, but did not get far.
- So patient with us. Lucy taught her to be tolerant of little people all over her.
- Nosing her way into our rooms.
- Dove whimper/cry
- black and white toenails
