Halloween 2018

Hooray for Halloween!

Our first Halloween activity was hosting the College Group for pumpkin carving and chili. You never know how many students to expect, but we were thankful a handful came. We scrambled around all day getting ready for them and finishing details around the house - like a doorknob on the new bathroom. The kids all had a vision for their pumpkins. Isaiah - the puking pumpkin, which he has always remembered AFTER carving his pumpkin. This year, the idea did not slip his mind and his design was well executed. Noelle wanted a "regular happy pumpkin" and she did it! She's 100% self-sufficient in the entire process and loves it. Lucy's hope was to create a pumpkin that "looks like her" since she's been getting comments about how her teeth look like a jack-o-lantern. She also was successful in accomplishing her vision!

This was by far the easiest costuming we have done, and the kids were as cute as ever. Lucy decided early on that she wanted to be a ballerina. She's in dance class right now, and she really loves her leotard, tights and shoes. Typically I do not let her wear the ballet slippers outside, which may have been some of the motivation for her wanting to be a ballerina...and wear her ballet slippers! Noelle, Elia, and Evelyn decided together to be cowgirls. Again, super easy. Noelle pretty much wears a "cowgirl" outfit often (minus the hat and bandana). Adding those accessories was pretty simple! And Isaiah ended up borrowing some Harry Potter gear from the Masons. He was an awesome Harry Potter and then switched gears to Darth Vader for a lunch out with friends. Of course I was a queen bee, and Luke regretted letting Halloween sneak up on him again and failing to produce an awesome costume.

We went to Trick-or-Treat at LeTourneau with our little friend Jeremiah. We didn't make connections with other friends this year, so that was a little sad. It was still good to get out and get some candy! On real Halloween, there were big storms predicted in the evening, so we had to find some costume events early in the day. Cue "free kids meals for kids in costumes" and McAlisters and a visit to the Wiener Mobile at the public library!

The night was stormy, so the Caldwells came over in costume. The kids watched Paddington 2 while the adults chatted and we listed to the rain. The storm was not the whopper that was predicted, but it was a good bit of rain. We were cozy and candy-filled and costumed inside.
