It was a joy to celebrate Luke's big 4-0! I had been dying to give him his gift for months, so I was definitely way more exited for this milestone than he was! (He had also recently hurt his hip, and it didn't make for a great perspective on getting older...). His gift was a getaway to Broken Bow with Kelly, Aaron, Cliff, and Steve a few weeks later. Yay!!! He was very surprised and it took a few moments to get his head around it. The summer was already PACKED and it was a little overwhelming to squeeze another trip in. Once he got used to the idea, he got increasingly excited. By the time the date came, all of the guys were sending excited texts and prepping for a guys weekend. They lived it up with good food, whisky, talking, kayaking, and an accidental 9 mile hike. But they all survived and their old-ish bodies are strong bodies, which was encouraging for all of them!
For our family celebration, we took Luke to Kiepersol, a winery/vineyard outside of Tyler. It was beautiful! We enjoyed exploring a little bit (albeit slow due to the hurt hip...). Then we had the fanciest meal the kids have ever had. I was so proud of them. This is not typically a "kid place," but they did very well and loved their food. Luke was very satisfied with his steak, so it was a win! It was maybe the quickest meal anyone has had in that steakhouse. We were in and out in under an hour. But, we were done and antsy and my one glass of wine didn't take long to enjoy!
We came home to cobbler and ice cream. The cobbler was hot, so the 40 candles had to go in the ice cream instead.
We are so proud of who Luke is at 40 and look forward to seeing him thrive, grow, learn, and serve through this decade. XOXOXO
