With Mimi & Pa here, we packed the weekend with all sorts of events. Final basketball games, a Magic Show @ Alpine, Luke and & went to Jefferson for a night away, and then we celebrated Lucy's birthday on Sunday evening. Although it was still a couple days before really being 4, she was delighted by the celebrations -
Noelle presented her with a doll bed -
Isaiah gave her a rolly polly park -
Mimi & Pa hit the jackpot with a jewelry box / music box -
She also loved her binoculars, ant farm, new boots, and marble game -
Her food choice was bow tie pasta with cream sauce and then strawberry shortcake.

We are so incredibly blessed to be Lucy's family!! She is such a delight. We really enjoy all of the things that come out of her mouth these days - questions, stories, observations, conversations. We are never unaware of what she is thinking. (She's uniquely chatty on the potty) Other than a persistent fear of glitter and dislike of kisses, she is a very easy little girl. We have discovered that she's ok with "Italian kisses", when we make kiss sounds on either side of her face. Her favorite foods are butter, sugar, and bananas. She likes to watch whatever Noelle is watching and they often argue about what their show of the day will be. She loves playing outside, drinking juice, making new friends, and coloring. She admires Noelle so much and usually wants to be doing whatever she is doing. She can sit for hours listening to books. We recently read Charlotte's Web then saw the play and the movie. She was able to articulate differences and her preferences between the 3. She has also started reading. She did her first lessons before her 4th birthday because she wanted to. Isaiah, Noelle and I have been writing short words for her and watching her sound them out. It's a bit like when she learned to walk - all of us delighting in her baby steps. Actually, on her first night of reading, Isaiah was doing a lesson with her on the couch. He and Lucy were so excited that she was reading, they moved the lesson into the bathroom, where Noelle was in the bath so she could be amazed as well. So sweet. A few of her recent comments:
"So, what is a 'thinking cap' anyway?"
"I figured out why it's called 'fried okra'. Because it is okra, and it's fried!"
"I am really good at drawing cucumbers!"
"I'm not picking my nose. I'm just rubbing my boogies. They like it."
"How are Grandma & Granddad going to fit their car on the plane?"
"Can I have a drink, and it will be juice?"
(Often yelled from the other side of the house): "MOM! I forgot what I was going to say!"
Or, from her bed every night: "MOM! This is the last time I'm going to call you!!!"
