Worth the wait

Fall is late down here in East Texas.  Really, the leaves didn't start turning until the last week or two.  I don't think our yard has even reached peak color yet.  It has been such a treat to watch the leaves change this year.  I think I've been starved for the beauty of fall, and it's such a treat to have it - and to know this is waiting for us at the end of every looooong, hot, humid summer.  On Saturday morning, we threw caution to the wind and laid aside all of our house/teaching projects.  We drove about 30 min north to a state park, where we hiked a few miles around this little lake.  We were really wishing we'd had our act together enough to camp this weekend  - the weather was perfect and the leaves were amazing.  We're marking our mental calendars for some November camping next year.

We've never seen berries like this before.  The color was unreal!
