Junior Scientist!

This week was the Science Fair at our school.  It was such a great experience for our junior scientist.  We went to an orientation in October and had been kicking ideas around for a few months.  After Christmas, we decided to grow bread mold.  I had suggested comparing preservative-free homemade bread with store-bought bread.  Isaiah's idea was to compare bread with water vs. bread with saliva on it.  Perfect!  Over the last month, we planned and executed the experiment, compiled results, made this poster, and practiced answering questions about it (for the interview).

So, on Monday morning, the kids and I went to set up his poster and he had his interview (totally on his own).  He did great and was beaming when he came out!  That evening, the whole family went out for burgers at The Habit (Isaiah's request) then went to the Fair.  We wandered through the exhibits and then waited for the awards ceremony.  Isaiah was thrilled to be awarded Honorary Mention (essentially 4th place) in his age group of preschool - 2nd grade.  He put his ribbons up on his wall and is very excited to spend his $5 Target gift card award, too.

And, in case you're curious - It was confirmed that bread with saliva on it grew more mold and grew mold faster than the bread that had water on it or the bread that was dry.
