We've misplaced plenty of items in the last week as we've packed, moved, and resettled. We're still digging through those last boxes full of odds and ends that don't really have a place here, either. But, there was one lost item last week that was super fun!! Isaiah lost his first tooth! It's been wiggly for a few weeks and we've been anxiously awaiting the moment it would finally wiggle out. He hadn't been obsessively wiggling it - just checking on it now and then. I think he was a little nervous about how it would happen - and I'm guessing he'll be more aggressive in moving further teeth along.
Here's how it happened, in his words:
"I was brushing my teeth and I felt something like a nut in my mouth. And I spit it out to know what it was. And when I spit it out, it was my tooth! It almost went down the drain. I picked it up and it was a little bloody and I went downstairs to show my aunt and uncle, my Mimi and my Pa, and my mommy and my daddy and my sister. They were excited and mommy gave me a little box that I could put my tooth in. And I put it on my dresser and wrote a note so the tooth fairy wouldn't take my tooth. And the next morning there was a gold dollar in my box! I'm going to save the gold dollar until I get a few more gold dollars and then I'm going to buy something."
I can remember so clearly the moment I first felt that tooth emerging from baby gums. Isaiah was 6 months old. I was pushing his stroller along Bridge Street in St. Andrews. I reached down and felt his little gums - and there it was, poking through. I remember the shot of adrenaline and the butterflies in my stomach at that moment along with the sadness that he would never be my gummy baby again - and it was just the same at this moment! Luke and I were excited for Isaiah and are so thankful our big guy is growing up, but we're both sad, too. Time marches on, and this marks a new era for our baby boy. There are many teeth left to loose and many visits from the tooth fairy ahead. We're ready for an ever changing smile on our little guy for the next, oh, decade as baby teeth leave and new teeth come and they all likely spend a few years in braces. Here we go, sweet boy!
