Drumroll, please

Today was the long awaited 2nd scan. We took an early bus to Dundee, with a few extra minutes for hot chocolate and tea. It was cold this morning! Once you're in Dundee, you have to take a second bus to get to the hospital, and we arrived in time for our 9:30 appointment. It was so crazy to sit in that same waiting room where we waited for Isaiah's 20 week scan, excited and nervous. This time, Isaiah was busy playing with the toy lawnmower and gross dolls while we sat and waited, excited and nervous.

We got settled in the examination room, and the technician did her thing. She was very thorough, spending lots of time looking at the heart, spine, head size, kidneys, bladder, blood supply... After she completed the routine checks, she said she was finished and that everything looked good. She'd turned off the machine for about .2 seconds before I said "Wait!! Can you tell us what the gender is??" She graciously turned the machine back on and found a good angle to determine that we're expecting a little girl! She looked quickly, confirmed it was a girl, and turned it off again. It didn't seem nearly as thorough of an examination as she'd given the rest of the baby, so I inquired about her certainty. She said it was pretty clear, that she'd be very surprised if it was a boy. So, we're going with it!

When we were at this point with Isaiah, he was laying down with a perfect profile. He had his legs out in front, arms behind his head, and just kicked every once in a while, making it a very easy examination for the technician - and a very clear shot that he was a he. This little girl, on the other hand, was like a ball of yarn, arms and legs every which way, rolled into a little ball, kicking, squirming, not cooperating all that well with the poking and prodding of the ultrasound machine. Time will tell if this was the first moment we saw the differences in our kids' personalities...

We're so thankful to know that our new little one is looking well and healthy. What a joy it is to see that little heart thumping and those little legs kicking. This time, we got some really clear shots of feet and ankles, which was fun. I think we both would have felt a little more comfortable with the announcement of a boy, since we're in boy mode and know how to "do" boy, at least for the first couple of years. But, we're both really excited for this little princess to enter our family. We'd love your continued prayers over this pregnancy and baby girl!

Congratulations!
As the mommy of a girl, who was as you know, terrified at the prospect, I can tell you with authority, it is completely wonderful!

Holly, that's wonderful. She is going to be beautiful. She will probably look like a miniature you.

Girls are so much fun! We still don't know what we're having because our little one had legs crossed and tucked so tightly during our 20 week ultrasound that no one could see anything down there!
